I stumbled in here accidentally while looking for info on 1890s American campaign hats. What a pleasant surprise this site is!

My wife and I are 42, and we feel like old fogies when we complain about how sloppy people (especially young people) look. We agree that this country started going downhill when men stopped wearing hats! What a pleasure it is to see pictures here of young men dressed well. I hope you young guys are the leading edge of a style renaissance.

We've always felt a little tug of "faux-stalgia" for the 30s and 40s (well before we were born, hence "faux"!) We love WWII airbird shows, we usually put on the Big Band music channel on the DVR while we have dinner, and I bought myself a Crosley retro-style radio that is just so evocative when I play Sinatra or Dean Martin or Benny Goodman on it. That's about it, I don't dress in the style, but I did give up baseball caps for Ivies. Not a fedora, but it's a step there, right?:)

Like I said, I really love what you guys are doing, I hope it spreads, and I hope to see young people taking pride in their appearance again with the cues of the most stylish era ever. Lookin' good, folks.

Welcome to the lounge, schuzuki. It's nice to read your positive comments, and I know you'll enjoy your stay here. The company is great and the hats inspiring. May I suggest you take the plunge? You'll definitely stand out in the sea of hatless heads and baseball caps.

Last night we had dinner out and there were two other fedoras in the restaurant along with mine, a rare occasion. Nothing was said between me and the two gentlemen, but, of course, I was admiring their hats, one of which was a very sharp looking black stingy with a red feather. And later my wife said they were checking out my VS custom and obviously talking about it amongst themselves. Mine remained on my head because there was no place for it to sit at our table.

Welcome Shizuki,

I feel as you do, that a majority of today's people dress poorly. I feel than men in particular are guilty of this. Even if one does not care for the 30's and 40's design and cut, at least appreciate their standards of dress, the fedora being part of the dress standard.

It is an interesting observation of yours that the dress standards started decaying when hats were no longer being worn. But, now that you mention it, one that has merit.

I hope we hear more from you in the future. Don't be shy, please show pictures of any fedora acquisition.
