That sounds quite interesting. I'd love to see it.
"Paths of Glory" is another great WWI film, starring Kirk Douglas and directed by a young Stanley Kubrick in 1957. A cynical and edgy look at the French Army mutinies in 1917. They say all great war movies are anti-war movies, and that is certainly true of war films about the Great War.

Well I happened to be browsing my local Blockbuster today while I was waiting to get a trim on the ol' hair and saw this came out on DVD. So I had to grab it up.

WOW... truly awe inspiring. Really gets you into the Christmas spirit. As mentioned before there are subtitles when your in the French or German bunkers or bases... but it's not that hard to follow even without reading the subtitles.

I highly recommend it for this holiday season. The two German opera singers are worth the rental in and of itself.

THis is actually based on a true story. I heard about it years ago and was excited to hear it was a movie. I will rent it soon.

It makes me cry just thinking about the story.

Another great wwI movie is a very long engagement. It is French, came out a few years ago and is kind of a murder mystery, love story, thriller, war movie, period piece. It is excellent.

A great movie, IMHO!

BTW- In the autuwn 2007 the most expensive German film will be released. It's called 'Der rote Baron' (The red Baron) and tells the story of Manfred von Richthofen.

Henrik

Thought this deserves a bump. I saw ait afew years ago and am thrilled to see it is on netflix on demand. I will be watching it sometime soon.

Great period film, and being based on a true story, is a great heartwarming comment on humanity and the horrors of war.

Everyone sould see and enjoy this film.

This became a tradition at our fall WWI reenactment events (when we had it in December).

We would halt the battle around midnight and congregate in the middle of No Man's Land and share some cookies and Schnapp's for about 20-30 minutes. Then go back to our trenches and commence the fighting again.

We did this for years (before that movie came out) and then I finally asked if the troops ever did that since I was just learning about the Great War and found out that it really did happen. Some liberties were taken for the movie, but what else is new. Overall, I really like Joyeux Noel.

Unfortunately, the war just got more and more brutal from there.
