My Adam has a tag that says the style number and the color (Silver Sand), but the only name given is Airlite.

Once again you have my congratulations on that Stetson Jimmy. It looks just as nice as I imagined.

Well, I've rolled back the sweat on my newly arrived Majestic...It was priced @ $6.00, had the number 30 by itself, had a printed "Adamajestic" as one word and a reorder number which started with GP and a few numbers...the sweat did have "Majestic Quality" printed on it, so not real sure what the model name would be.
By the way, will be putting up some pics on this thread as soon as I have the bashes where I like 'em. For me, that is not a given but I'm slowly working my way there

Johnnyphi Schoble Warburton question

I just received my Warburton, unlined and with some of the softest, thinnest felt I can imagine. How tough should I expect this hat to be? Having never owned or even seen a Borsalino or Christy Foldaway hat before; I'm wondering if this particular hat was or is suitable as a packable hat...it is my assumption that hats designed to be folded had better be tough, yet thin but I'm also aware that it is 50-60 years old already. Any idea? Thanks, Hoss

Just took it off the block this evening, it fits perfectly and there are absolutely no ill effects!!

I'm glad it went well! Good for you for taking a chance on this amazing lid! I've always thought that these hats would stretch well because the sweatbands and felt are in perfect condition. Stretching a hat by one size (such as stretching a Size 7 hat to 7 1/8) should have minimal impact on the felt body of the hat.

The issue of stretching has been addressed numerous times on dozens of FL threads, but I really feel that Loungers shouldn't be affraid to take a chance on one of my lids, just because the size is 1/8 smaller than normal.

Careful stretching should NOT have any negative effects on the look of the hat.

For instance, as I mentioned in one my first threads on the Lounge, I gave my dad a Size 7 1/2 Adam "Mainliner" for Christmas. The hat was a bit snug on him. (He's probably a 7 5/8.) He loves the hat, but he's not the Do-It-Yourself type, so he took it to a reputable Western Wear store north of Dallas to have it stretched. The store is known for custom fitting and shaping cowboy hats, but the gentleman who stretched the hat was thrilled to have the opportunity to work on such a nice old fedora. He kept the hat on the stretcher for a week. When dad picked up the hat, it was a perfect fit, with no signs of stretching.

Soft thin felt does not necessarily mean it's foldaway. It's probably a summer-weight felt of something like that. As it is of considerable vintage, I wouldn't chance it. You shouldn't need to baby it, but be kind. ;)

Received my Adam Royal and it is a very nice hat. I pulled the sweat down and on the tag it said "Skylark". Is this a Stratoliner copy.

Well, that makes sense...I would not fold it up but probably for the wrong reason; once I (or if I ever) get it bashed to where I like it, I wouldn't want to go through the process again [huh] Thanks for the edu, Hoss

Please post the name of the establishment where your dad took his hat. Thanks.

I talked to my pops, and he said he went to "one of those places in Mesquite". I told him that I needed more specifics, but as I hinted in my earlier post, he's not big on details.

Mom was with dad when they stretched the hat, and she spent a long time talking with the gentleman about my project, so I'm sure she will remember details.

My first Johnnyphi winner was this Adam Majestic, worn to church yesterday for the first time (ever! still trips me out...). Thoroughly enjoyed it although maybe just a touch warm for a heavy felt. Only dry bashed so far...kinda workin' my way up to spritzing it with distilled water once I'm sure I like the bash...Thanks again, Johhnyphi, for the opportunity to wear a bit of history :eusa_clap

I appreciate the kind comments; it's fun to see the looks from the older generation at church. Elicits "back in the day" conversations and if they are really interested, I share the "Johnnyphi" story. One guy commented to his wife as he walked away something like "I've gotta find that hat I used to wear back when...remember how you...". My wife, who thoroughly enjoys my hats (but not the spending habit), was tickled that this fella seemed intent on jogging his wife's memory about some long lost fedora. Anyway, if anyone is on the fence about bidding on one of these hats, I'll add my recommendation to take the plunge. I really like the idea of wearing NOS hats, just something about it...and Johnnyphi probably understates what he's selling...If the hats I bought were just good and average, I gotta bid on one of his "pristines"!

Thanks. I'll find a place near where I live I'm certain. There is a plethora of Western Wear emporiums in or near Dallas.

Hoss, That Adam looks great on you. Congratulations! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

It is really something to wear a true, original classic hat that's essentially brand new isn't it? I've gotten nothing but compliments on mine, many from people my own age and younger (not something I'm used to). If you're holding back on these hats, DON'T! Unless you're a 7 3/8, I don't need any more competition. ;)

That is a great story Hoss! Along those lines... I gave a nice Adam straw and a Lee Adventure to my fiance's Grandfather for his 82nd birthday.

Granddaddy experienced a very similar reaction when he wore the straw to church this summer in a typical Texas town. As the story goes, the Sunday school teacher commented on Granddaddy's hat, so Granddaddy told him how he got the hat.

The teacher liked the story so much, he decided to abandon his lesson... Instead, he asked Granddaddy to tell the story of Johnnyphi's hats. It was a big hit. The hat was passed around the room (original price tag and all). Several gents even remembered owning similar Adam hats.

I haven't asked Granddaddy if they used the hat to collect offering, but it's not a bad idea! :D

Nice looking Majestic, Hoss. I don't have a Majestic yet, but I still watch the auctions. Maybe before they're all gone. Great story too.
