Jacket sizing

I've watched a few jackets come and go on the 'Bay in recent months. I was narrowly outbid on a beautiful Buzz Rickson B-10 last week; I could have bid higher but didn't want to commit too much on the basis of not being sure about the sizing. So my question..... I gather that the broad rule of thumb is to go with my suit jacket size for a jacket like an A2 that I'd only be wearing a shirt or thin jersey under, but a size up (like an overcoat) with a jacket I'd want to be wearing something heavier under - B3, Irvin. So what about the inbetweens - here I'm thinking B-10, B-6? What would have been de riguer back in the day? I presume the B-10, as it was a repalcement for the A2, would have been worn over just a shirt - any idea on the B6?

Edward, there's no hard and fast rules like you mention which go across the board for jackets (would be lovely if there was). A huge amount depends on the maker of the jacket and what their sizings are like.

If you're after a Buzz Rickson B-10 find out from other owners what these jackets fit like, if you're after an Aero Leather A-2, ask those owners, etc, etc.

Hope you become an owner of a flight jacket soon Edward, seems you've been wanting one for awhile now.

Edward, it just might be the other way around.
When wearing an Irvin you do not need much - but a shirt - under it.
While wearing a A2 at wintertime, you might need a sweater under.
Confused???:eusa_doh:
But I totally agree with Smithy. You better get that jacket;)

Heh, I get you. It will happen soon. An A2 for the Spring is a definite (just got to get Christmas over first...), but I've been watching a lot of auctions for jackets here and there, seeing what else turns up on the web. Seems 42" is a popular size.... Recently saw an ELC B-6 gonig for sale, but wasn't sure whether to bid as it was a 42".... anyone know how how the Eastman comes up? Despite me normally taking a 42R in a suit, I'm used to buying a 44" in mc jackets as those tend to run smaller; even wartime-correct fit A2s tend to run a little more generous in the fit than those, though..... I'm all confused!

Edward, the best thing to do is to call Garry at Eastman's. He is a totally helpfull guy. He should be able to guide you to the right size.
You will propably be asked to take some measures: shoulder, back, breast, tummy (if any), waist and height. From there its a piece of cake for Garry.
