Jacket: Not vintage, but will it pass?

I found this jacket at the thrift shop yesterday. I really like the pattern and softness of the fabric. There are no labels or tags in it anywhere, but I'm pretty sure it's not very old. I thought the three buttons and the high lapels gave it a vintage look. Opinions please (aside from the fact that I need to stand up straight and suck in that gut)...

I don't see why it can't be passed off as vintage. I personally own no real vintage suits (the best I get is 60s) but I personally like to think that I manage to make my suits look vintage by the accessories I wear (although they too are modern). Either way, it looks like a nice suit.

Good Looking Jacket!

My Opinion is, it looks great and most of all, if you like and feel good in it, I say wear it! Just my $2... adjusted amount for inflation.

Great jacket. Wouldn't quite fool me as far as vintage, but I was a professional dealer and hard core collector with a good eye.

It does have a great classic look that is very vintage. And it fits you wll and looks quite good on you.

To me, the pattern and texture set it apart from what I think a "modern" coat looks like. It may not be vintage or period accurate, but it is certainly more interesting than most suits I see around here.

Thanks to everyone for the thumbs-up on the jacket. I've been wanting a jacket that, if not actually vintage, had a vintage look in a low-key way without being too period-specific - and this one seems to fit the bill. Besides fitting Bill, it fits me pretty much perfectly and feels very natural and comfortable to wear.

Chalk up another thrift shop win - it cost me all of $2.50 on half-price day.

For that kind of money, you better like it and wear it a lot.;)
PS at that price I hope it was clean too.

The lapels give it away as a newer suit, though it looks good with that higher button stance and wide straight lapels.

It's not really about looking vintage sometimes. Sometimes it's about looking cool. That one sets you off and looks cool. Yes it's a kind of Gary Cooper 40's cut. Something you'd see on Red Skelton from the day, though altogether what i think really matters is that it's something we can see on you now. It doesn't look effected or out of place and if you want it can pass for vintage.

A very good find!

A fine-looking jacket indeed: can one ask, is it pure wool ? Quite a few modern versions of vintage jackets tend to use synthetic fibres to cut costs, I've found. To my annoyance!

Yep, freshly cleaned - still had the cleaner's tag stapled to the inside pocket. For that kind of money, I'd certainly expect it to be clean...
