Found this news article on the BBC, telephone books going back to 1880 have been put online, making it easier to trace family histories.

It appears even Winnie was listed in the telephone book during the 'Golden Age'

Well it seems to me the telephone book for many of my contemporaries is becoming a lost item. I used to do searches for people using the book... old ones are a great resource for tracking down those who don't wish to be tracked. Give it 10 years and they won't be printed. Now to read the article.

Probably none. Computers were going to create a paperless society...and in reality, it's caused a huge increase in the amount of paper produced.
