Is this a reproduction of something?

What I mean is, is this based on a vintage style? I've had this since the early 90's and just rediscovered it. I can't find any pics online of a Brown's Beach Jacket, but from what I remember, they look sorta like this.
I'm gonna put it back into my wardrobe regardless, but wanted to know HOW I should wear it. It's got 3 pockets and it's wool, but is it workwear? It doesn't seem dressy.

It looks very similar to the Woolrich Railroad Vest, which they claim to have been making since the 1880s. Their modern ones have zippers, but I doubt their original models did.

They don't offer much else, but perhaps it was a style popular amongst railroad crews, and yours is a variation on that theme. I would assume that it was workwear for the railroad crews, if, in fact, that is its origins.

Thanks! That could be it!

Sounds like Leiderhosen would be an appropriate match to it, then? ;)

I can see it working well with tweeds, on a country walk on a bracing Autumn morning. :)
