Is this a jacket or shirt/jacket?

I couldn't let this one pass on OFAS, but I'm not sure how heavy the fabric is. Are any of you folks familiar enough with these to know whether it's an actual jacket or just a heavy shirt?

I'm hoping it's an actual jacket.

I'd say shirt, if it were a true jacket I think it would have a belt to be true to style.

Is this a jacket or a shirt/jacket

To actually qualify as a true shirt/jacket, the shirt is generally a very heavy material (wool, flannel, or canvas) and is usually lined though it doesn't have to be. The bottom hem (tail) should be cut similar to a standard shirt rather than a stright hem like a jacket and would have chest pockets but no lower or "handwarmer" pockets. In the past they were alternately reffered to as lumberman's shirts or hunter's shirts. The absence of the lower pockets was preferred by lumbermen as those pockets and any contents would interfere with the saw (and later the chainsaw). The hunter's shirt was meant to replace the sweater and provide more options for veting the garment during the rises and dips in tempreture during the day. I will have to locate am old LL Bean (1930's) catalog that I have which shows an excellent example of the hunter's shirt.
This is personal favorite in terms of outerwear. I have a cotton lined, wool shirt jacket that's about 20+ years old and I refuse to give it up.

I just bought a Tilley Safari Jacket off of e-bay the other week. They don’t make them anymore but they are really nice, light jackets. If you are interested there is another one listed right now.
