Is there a way to shrink a wool sport coat?

Good evening everyone!

For some time, I've been wondering how I may go about safely shrinking (just slightly, nothing too much) a wool sport coat (bought it off the rack at a department store a few months back) without ruining it. It has interior lining though, and that may be a factor as well. Has anyone actually tried shrinking a wool coat? If so, how do you go about doing it? I would appreciate answers, if possible, to my problem. As you can see, my coat is a bit large, and it just appears to be somewhat il-fitting. I've been losing weight pretty well since I bought it...

No. A Jacket is more then wool fabric, there are all sorts of materials that give it body and are stitched in rather precisely. If they're not stitched, they'll be fused, and that will have an even worse result. Different materials will shrink at different rates and will really screw up the garment.

Best you can do is take it to a tailor and see if they can modify it to fit you better. Prices will vary depending on what you want done, and if it was the wrong size to begin with there may be no hope.

Thankfully, I have not even attempted so, but with all of this in mind, I'll leave it as it is. If it gets to a point in which it's too large, maybe I'll give it to someone or donate it. Thank you for your answers, everyone.
