I just bought a very clean, near mint fedora today. I did a little checking and found out it's a Resistol. The leather hat-band has the owners initials ( MFC )
stamped in it along with "Desmonds Southern California", and "Pace-Setter". In addition, it has "Self Conforming" written in script. All of the above are in gold. The hat is size 7, my size, and is the color of chocolate milk, with bound edge and a 1 3/4" band.
I had to lay out $46.00 for it. The place I bought it from likely did the research on it so I'm pretty sure I didn't "steal" it, but it fits perfectly, and suits me to a "T" if I do say so myself. I welcome any and all comments or suggestions, and opinions of whether the price was right or...........
Thanks,
Frankie Lamb PS I'm still picture posting challenged so no pictures yet.

Hey Franky,

If you like the hat, you did great! That's what counts above all else.

I am one of the Loungers who are partial to vintage hats - '30s and '40s being best IMO. When we can see the hat's sweatband and other construction details we could say whether you scored a real oldie or a more recent product.

I have a (probably '50s) Resistol snap brim and it has really nice, soft felt. To my surprise, it really did seem to conform rather easily to my knotty head, although I still tend to think of "Self-Conforming" as just being marketing schtick. But maybe not. [huh]

Anyway, for less than fifty bucks you probably did well for yourself. Many new hats (Stetson Temple, for instance) go for around $150 and, sadly, do not compare favorably to my older Resistol or other vintage hats.

Now for the WARNING:
If you are the compulsive type, you're in for a lot of trouble as vintage size 7s are abundant. I know. I'm a 7 also and I've given in to temptation dozens of times now!! :p :D  Enjoy!
