Iron on patches on leather addition and removal

Has anyone put on or more importantly taken off iron on patches, not sewn just heated glue back patches
1.will they stick on leather when ironed on
2. Can they be removed with out damaging the leather
3. Is there glue residue left on n leather and can it be removed (with acetone or other compound?)

If I was already thinking of how to get them off I personally wouldnt put them on in the first place - I cant imagine that they would come off cleanly with no marks, but Ive got no first hand experience either way

I would first try duct tape to remove residue. If that doesn't work, you can use lighter fluid or WD-40 to remove the residue, but I would test them on leather prior to an important item. They're old tricks to remove sticker residue off album covers without damaging the cover. They do have oil in them, so I would assume they would darken the leather. I've never used them on leather. Iron-on anything to leather sounds like a messy outcome.

1. Depends on the glue but they will, yeah. Though ironing leather definitely isn't a good idea.
2. Depends on the finish. If the jacket has a top coating, removing the patch might peel a portion of it off and there's no fixing that.
3. Again, depends on the glue. Some will leave residue. Some will even burn the leather, making it crispy & stiff.

Best not to do it. I have had good experience with the so called Leather Cement Glue by Barge. It won't affect the leather as it doesn't seem to chemically react to it other than sticking to it and you can easily peel it off and it shouldn't leave a trace but I only tried it on small areas so not sure if it's safe on just about any leather.

I am wanting to add a few patches to my new Perfecto after I break it in a little. I always thought patches were sewn on, I didn't think they were glued on. I also was wondering how they were sewn on the sleeves. I thought there must be some kind of trick to it. Do most of the "patched up Perfectos" have there patches glued on? Did all the punk rockers sew or glue their patches on?

If your jacket is black, i think glueing is a better way, leaving no stitch holes incase you want to swap patches later.
