shut 'im up and throw away the key. This is just the kind of scum we don't need roaming the streets, frightening old ladies with his smelly parchments. Where will it ever end?

And this bloke has a master's degree in history? In spite of that fact he doesn't appear to be a very bright guy. :p

When I read the headline I thought it must be a kid. Hard to believe this 40 year old dolt thought he would get away with it!

Greed makes some people think that they are invisible maybe?

That and maybe spending too much time online makes them forget that buddy blocks, screen names and other forms of masquerading won't hide who they are from the law.

Maps, too

Anything to make a buck, I suppose.

Maybe some of you have heard of the maps dealer who cut extraordinarily valuable maps from rare books at libraries at Harvard and Yale, among others? He was caught when he dropped his x-acto knife on the floor on the way out of the library at Yale.

Makes me think of all the pages missing from editions of Apparel Arts when i get them. Clearly someone has seen a cool advertisement and removed it to put on a wall or put it into a quilt or something.

It comes down to a basic lack of respect for things that belong to someone else, and a lack of respect for those around you. This is at the root of the majority of thefts.

Which is why these things will quit being available to see. We'll have to settle for electronic copies.

My avatar is my favorite painting, ever, and I don't like the artist. I've never seen it in person. The one time I made it to Spain, someone had damaged it, and it's not one they keep out for viewing now.

Having a master's degree doesn't mean you're smart...it means you can work the system and play the game, memorize the facts and spit them back out when needed.

...and those skills are even more helpful when running a tight scam. This guy's wasn't tight enough, obviously.

Tea Leafs in Museums

We had a bloke in Sydney that had been systematically cleaning out one of our natural history museums for years until discovered with the loot back 'ome.
