Good deals, but they give off a stereotypical old man/oversized look in the picture -- something I'm trying to avoid in wearing things like cardigans. I wonder if one would have any luck sizing down? I have a Banana Republic cardigan that's a size Small and fits way better than the Medium, even over a dress shirt.

With modern production knitwear, i've found it useful to go for one size below normal. Knitwear will stretch (obviously) and give that "vintage" look - close to the body. Not so good if you have an abundance of fat, though; not flattering at all.
