...but maybe this is a little extreme:

When thinking of fedoras that cost $999...this is not what I picture.

In fact, note the elastic-y ribbon on the crown, and the burgundy exterior?

Here's a hat I picked up on eBay about six months ago (for the venerable sum of $12.49):

Might not be the exact same hat...but pretty close...

I feel like I should email this seller and let them know that they MAY have a small problem selling their hat for such a price.

You should contact the seller and tell him to stop smoking that illegal stuff and go buy some cigarettes! LOL
It appears either that guy is high or you got the bargain of your lifetime.

Regards to all,

J

P.S. Did I mention that I hate people with small heads that can buy Royal Stetsons for $24? LOL LOL Just kidding. I like my big head--as long as the hair stays on it. LOL LOL

More of them...Argh

I've actually seen at least 2-3 of these wildly expensive lids  recently. They claim an appraiser has said they are worth thousands. It's really hard not to contact them and try to educate but it would probably not be appreciated eh...From $999.99 to $12.95 might be a bit shocking!!

Ah Well...

Well said James, but watch the bashing of people with small heads! J/K lol :p :p :p LOL LOL LOL

Let me guess---you just bought a brand new, never been worn Borsalino Alessandria in 6 7/8 for $20. Oh the horror of a smaller head! LOL
Then I sit here with egg on my face when I see great hats like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8122158424&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT and this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=52389&item=8123283307&rd=1 that will never fit me.
No, really you just cannot have them all. It is probably better that I have a melon head because the house would be full of them. LOL It also makes the hunt more interesting. :D

Regards to all,

J

...yeah...my house is pretty much full of 'em.

Incidentally, I just lost out on some Borsalinos (because I couldn't be home when the auction ended) which both went for...$21.50.

I paid $79 for my favorite vintage Borsalino. The really really nice ones always end up being sort of expensive...although $79 is still not much for the quality of the Borsalino I got.

I have a funny story about a hat!

It starts out in 1997 when I started to build my hat collection. I happened to run into a vintage store in Pasadena. They were known to be very expensive! But, I looked around any how. I found a beautiful late 30?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Royal Stetson XXX Beaver quality! It was very light gray, had a Cav edge and a matching ribbon with trolley wire. The felt was soft as you could ever wish for in a Stetson! It was NOS and had the original price tag inside! It was originally to be sold for $15.00 back then. The price they wanted was $75.00

I didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t have that much to blow on a hat. I did how ever have some stuff I wanted to trade. So, I used another vintage article to trade for the hat. Well, the shop keep didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t want a full trade so, he offered to take what I had and sell the hat to me for $15.00!

So, for one day I bought a brand new 40?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s hat for the original price! Too bad that hat was stolen from me at the Hollywood Derby.

Oh well, I have learned my lesson,

Root.

I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m glad you enjoyed the story behind the Stetson XXX. I remember when I first got that hat it was so soft that I had a hard time keeping it shaped the way I wanted. I ended up getting it blocked at a place in Burbank and I asked them to clean and block it. I asked them to block it open crown but it came back with a tear drop block! And, for some reason it was starting to yellow around the edge of the brim! It wasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t that way before I took it in! So, I stopped going there all together!

It still was a very nice hat, but when it was stolen, it was a big bummer! But, I started to look at the bright side?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ I had a reason to find a better hat!

That is one thing I really wish they would bring back is hat check girls! A man needs a place to check his coat and hat at these swanky Hollywood dance venues!

Regards;)
