I had no problem with this dress. I liked this one over the ball gown from Last night. I think people were put off because the gown is sleeveless, and shes wearing a sweater over top.

LD
I liked this dress. I thought it was really interesting and could definitely understand why she liked it. If I had seen it on display in a store, I would have been drawn to it.

I think you might be right about the sweater.

I'm reminded of JFK, who, as president, wore white tie and tails with a single satin braid down each trouser leg. Shocking! Tails require double braids!

(Of course, my tongue's firmly in cheek. But it's true that JFK did this.)

I've never been impressed with anything I've seen of Kennedy as a dresser. [huh]

That said.... I had always been of the impression that a double stripe with white tie was a European thing, while in the US a single stripe was acceptable - not the case? A uniform single stripe would actually make sense to me, my theory being that it would allow the gentleman to construct his white tie wardrobe around some of the same staple pieces (much like wearing a white dj with the same trousers for variation). Naturally, this would presume they all match, though with a quality black barantha wool I've found this not to be the problem it can be with blacks in general.

As to Obama's evening wear.... By Luonge standards, he made a few faux pas, though we should remember that by contemporary standards he did nothing too far wrong. The white tie is a glaring mistake, IMO, but that said it was much better than a host of other "mistakes" he couls have made - such as a coloured bow tie (I remember a lot of the guys at my Grammar school formal being convinced by the hire place to ear a bow tie matching their date's dress - vile), or one of those awful clip-over top button covers are an alternative to a tie. The white bow at least has a little more of a classic look to it (and to my eyes, appears to b a real bow tie too - at least he didn't sink to the level of a pre-tied!!). I certainly share the dislike of notch lapels on a dj common here in the lounge, but I think we should recognise that those have since the 90s emerged as a norm in contemprary men's evening wear, every bit as much as the shawl lapel. In that sense, from a modern fashion pov they are "correct." In the first photo I saw, I though his jacket was cut long, almost like a zoot, but that's not repeated in others so it must simply have been the odd perspective of that first shot.

Lo and behold, here's where they got 'em!

How am I not supposed to write ....Bwahahahahahaaaa...nearly lost my Starbucks there.

Rondo, I still like that dress and coat. Scarlett O'Hara made her best dress from curtains. Just goes to show what a practical, innovative woman Michelle is! :) LOL!!

Nope. Short trousers on a grown man: automatic fail. I remain unshakeably of the opinion that no man over the age of sixteen has any business swearing short trousers, which are indeed the garment of a child. I do recall that one seven days between the ages of 16 and 21 (thankfully, none since), I sported a pair of short trousers, and I bitterly regret every one of them.

Otherwise..... nothing remarkable at all about Kennedy's dress sense. I mean, leaving aside the occasions highlighted when he got it glaringly wrong, I have simply never seen anything worthy of particular note in the man's wardrobe. Certainly nothing to justify even a fraction of the celebration of him as some sort of moder Beau Brummel. [huh]

Don't think it's the case. Here in the U.S., double braids were the standard too -- at least until the '50s, when U.S. suit manufacturers decided to save money by offering the exact same trousers for both tuxedos and evening tailcoats.

Oh... oh my.... I always wondered if any man actually wore those sandals (as seen in Esquire as Marc says), and my word... HE did? Ugh. Jack, Jack, Jack....

He did have generally great fashion sense though. We're picking the worst to show. Here's the better.

My commentary was meant to be ironic.;)

The emoticon I placed below the photo :)eusa_doh: ) expressed my true feelings.

That said, there's nothing wrong with tastefully cut (to the knee cap) shorts, in my book.

Oh - according to CityTV here in Vancouver, the green dress coat of Mrs. O., and the long black coat of Pres. O. were bullet proof, that's why the heavy material... The presidential couple wanted to style, walk a bit, and look approachable... they were level 3A proof, which is lighter than the Kevlar, but still relatively effective.

Maybe it's just me, :D but did Cheney remind anyone else of Mr. Potter in IAWL?
not_me. My first thought was:
