I just have to know, how did you land that gig? I have seen that scene a few times and realized someone did their homework on that part.

I've never watched BOB. If I skipped ahead to episode 7, will I still be able to understand the story line?

Bit of a long story… But I worked on episode one (the one where the troops preparing for boarding)for the wardrobe dept. Got involved in the scene itself playing the part of an USAAF photographer… Shot about an hours worth of footage in "WWII photography style" on my 16mm Filmo, Spielberg and Hanks saw it…thought it was undiscovered colour archive so consequently I was asked back to play the part of a Cameraman in episode 7. The actual “Vintage footage” seen in the episode is footage actually shot on my old 1930s filmo. I do believe that they cut more of my stuff into the DVD.

As you very well know.. Almost all Bulge footage would have been shot on the “official format of 35mm B/W. … We’ discussed the fact that colour sequence could have been shot in the Ardennes... With 35mm B/W in short supply the Cameraman could have used any footage he had available…Hence the scene has me shooting colour on the 16mm Filmo…they( the Visual Effects Department)kept it in colour for the show….
So the Eyemo stayed in the box (Until I shot the Landing scenes on the BBC’s D-Day 6:6:44 doco-drama, but that’s another story)

Interesting, the first color footage I saw was on PBS years ago. This was long before all this undiscovered color came out. It was George Stevens personal home movies he took during the war. I think is was called "From D-Day to Berlin" it's availible on DVD I believe. PBS also did a great documentary
on the Worlds Fair (1930-40s) in color. It was awesome I have it on videotape somewhere. I have tried to track it down on DVD but no dice.

Spent a few hours chatting with the actor Kenneth Griffith a couple of years back. Did you know he was in the RAF during the war…Broke his back in an aeroplane crash….

Yep loved that movie ! How can you not love running around with FN Rifles ? Every time I shoot mine I think of that Kolima Village scene. Ken Griffth RAF really !? The "straight man" on the Benny Hill show (forget his name) was also in the RAF.
