Hello all,

My name is Alan and I am a high school teacher. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks and decided it was time to register. I have had a lifelong interest in bygone eras, the aesthetic pleasures of anachronistic things, and I have always prided myself on dressing nicely through my adult life. I have lately become interested in refining my look to a somewhat higher state of elegance, and the trick seems to be managing to do so without seeming like you are in a costume. I'll be continuing to read, to learn, and to contribute when I am able.

I have used fountain pens reguarly for years, and I have been eschewing my modern watches in favor of a wind-up for the past few months. My modern knives have mostly been languishing in a drawer while a traditional slipjoint rides in my pocket most days. I have recently taken to wearing bowties at work, which probably marks my final slip over to the dark side!

Welcome Magister. Former high school teacher myself...retired a year ago. What do you teach?

I've gone one step further in the watch department...I now rely on a pocket watch in a hunter case. My automatic wrist watch lies languishing in a drawer.

I teach Latin.

As for the watch, it is a cheap but accurate, wind-up B-Uhr style. It has a lefty crown, so I couldn't resist!

I was also once a high school teacher in another state and in another century. In the first Film Making class I taught, two of my students completed their films. One student wound up in the Ohio State Penitentiary and the other won an Academy Award.

Since I joined the Lounge, my hat collection has been upgraded to include an Akubra Campdraft, a Resistol San Marino, a Stetson Open Road and what appears to be a Boss Of The Plains. Each has been re-blocked and modified to my taste.

My leather flight jacket collection has expanded to include an A-2 in horse, a cowhide ANJ-3, a goatskin ANJ-3, and a sheepskin B-3.

Hi, Alan. Your introductory post is very nice. Latin Teacher. Reminds me of some of the beloved gentlemen, and they were indeed gentlemen in the best sense of the word, who were my prep school teachers in a much kinder, gentler era (about 50 years ago).
