A 1933 scottish fishing boat converted into living space. Only $70,000 with affordable mooring. Unfortunately its in Kent. Wrong side of the pond. :(

Sigh. Someday.

Oh yes, I hear old boats are very low maintenance.

Still arguably less so than a woman;)

Dwell Magazine did a piece on a great modern remodel of a boat on a canal near Amsterdam I think. Loved it.

Seattle has a large houseboat community, but the moorage has gotten quite expensive.

I lived on a houseboat for a couple of years. I enjoyed it as long as the boat was out of the slip. I worked at a place that was on the river, so I drove my fishing boat to work every day, untill the river froze anyway....

I wish I could have bought the 56 foot 1958 Chris Craft cruiser I'd spent a week on some years ago. Unfortunately, it remained docked while I refinished the wood. This 55' Chris Craft Conqueror most resembles the craft I was on.

Another Chris Craft I'd love to own in this 23' 1957 Chris Craft Continental. But I want the sliding canopy. I've been in love with this boat since I saw a restorable one on a trailer in the Bay Area back in the '90s. I love the fins! :)

How 'bout a plane? I know of a guy in Oregon who bought a scrapheap 727 airliner and turned it into a house, and I actually have concept floorplans on file to do something similar with a still-flyable Gulfstream 550--"the ultimate mobile-home"?

That would be cool.... I'd lose the wings from it.... keep the auto-stairways going - make it very hard for anyone to get in or out unless they had the keys.... :)

I toyed with thed idea of a houseboat as an affordable way in to living in a very flash part of London, but unfortunately while the boat was affordable (a mere £100,000 for something actually about as big as my current flat), the mooring fees were approaching a second mortgage level - without the investment (once that money's gone, it's gone) so I passed.
