I am curious about customs...my hat arrived in NY on December 3rd. I know it can take a long time, but what is the typical time it takes to clear? Thank you, David

The last time I ordered from HD I got mine in two weeks...but may be busier because of holiday season?

I'm on the other coast, but the longest I've had a hat linger in Los Angeles customs was four days. Conversely, one of my hats cleared customs on the same day they got it. *shrug*

I have read a few posts talking about a "tugboat" bash. The posts I have seen with pictures have the picture link down. Does anyone have a few pictures of this style? Thank you.

Those posts were made before photobucket went potso, and I don't think the author is around any longer.

The tugboat bash is basically a standard center dent with the front end pushed down while supporting the center of the humps, slightly towards the front, so they stay up high.

I will look and see if I have saved any pictures of this bash/crease.

Here are my two new additions...I have a question on the top of the crown. I can't get those wrinkles out. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am probably going to take the ribbon off the Bogart.

I just saw a video and someone was saying to hit it with some steam when you have the shape and it will smooth it out. I just did that and it looks a lot better.

Lowering the crown with a deep teardrop might lessen the visual effect of the nearly-vertical crown sides. This would just be an optical illusion of sorts, as the crown wouldn't gain any actual taper. So maybe that isn't any help.

A lot of us are drawn to the Fed IV specifically because there is a diminished taper to the crown, so this is a new one on me.

I have 3 Fed IVs and had to work with the first one a couple of weeks before I could get the look I wanted. I blamed the cut of the brim at first, but it turned out that once I got the crown shape I liked, the brim was just fine. (I'm learning that hats are weird that way.) The next 2 Fed IVs fell right in-line with a similar treatment. I hope you get the information you need to make the hat your own.

I like your bash. I prefer the dramatic side dents as you've administered. You got lucky with the brim symmetry - I had trouble with my Tawny Fawn in that regard, but solved it eventually.

The overall shape looks darn good, but it would be easier for me to judge in profile, or better yet, a head shot.
