Great price, and it was just my size. I will post some photos as soon as it arrives.

Personally, this is our favorite bow style for the 3/8" wide grosgrain. I just counted one out of six hats on our website has this bow-we do a ton of these. To me it doesn't look right on any wider ribbon and when the tails are added I think it detracts from the bow. It's simple, clean and looks classy.
Nice hat.

My personal favorite Span-Am war campaign hats had 5/8 grosgrain with the same bow with the tails out! Aside from the fact that I like the tails out, The distinction between 3/8 and 5/8 doesn't seem too great to me, but I agree that anything larger looks strange. Consider this New York State Trooper hat clearly based on the Span-Am War campaign hat, fat ribbon with tails on the bow. Not sure it really works well:

Looks like a Stetson Stratoliner, weren't Penney's hats made by "Lee" or some other vintage hat company? Enjoy it man!

My Open Roads, Stratoliner and now the Marathon all have different ribbon bows.

Great lookin' hat, RBH. What are the specs, if you know them yet?

I like the bow on that kind of hat.

This from the auction:
Interior is very (very) clean - has beautiful white lining, like-new brown leather brow band. Has 2 tags, one reading Aridex, water repellent; the other tag reads 7 1/2. Hat is labeled Penney's Marathon.
Measures: Interior 23 1/4" circum, Brim 2 3/4"wide, 5" tall crown, 1/2" grosgrain hat banding and edge trim.

I'm not a great fan of the thin ribbon, and avoid them like the plague (in fact that's the reason i'm not particularly interested in the stratoliner or open road.

Whippet for me.

That said, the bow treatment on your marathon is at least interesting ...

I like the whole package. Is the color as yellow as it looks on screen? How did I miss this one.

It was advertised as BUFF colored. When it gets here I will post some photos. It was a Penneys Marathon listed under Stetson style fedora. I just got lucky!!!

We of the Brotherhood of the Thin Ribbon must stick together.

I guess that makes me a 5/8 degree Thin Ribbon Brother studying for my next degree. Then I'll get to learn the handshake!
