Hey everyone!

This is my first post here. I've enjoyed reading the board, and I have a question for you seasoned veterans here. I was at a small shop in Lahaska, PA called Hats Galore & More and immediately was drawn to a hat. It's made by the Henschel Hat Company, but it's from a new line that is not yet featured on their webpage. The tag says that it's a "Gentleman's Hat," but that doesn't narrow it down much. It's made of 75% wool, 20% polyamid, and 5% cashmere. "Made in U.E." $39.95. I don't have an image of the hat, but I do have an image of one that's very similar:

So, it looks like that except it's more of a brown tweed pattern; nonetheless, the shape is nearly identical EXCEPT that the back of the brim slopes downward just like the front and sides, creating an almost bucket shape. So picture the hat above, except the brim is the same in the back as it is the front/sides. The width of the brim is just under 2".

Is it a fedora? A trilby? A hybrid? Neither? What can you folks tell me about the style?

Either way, I love it, I'd just love to know what it is.

Neither, really. It's closer to an Irish walking hat or a bucket hat. Think of the hat that Sean Connery wore as Indiana Jones' father in The Last Crusade. Can be styled to vaguely resemble a fedora, as it is in that picture, or worn with the brim down all around Probably made from a stiff-ish tweedy cloth, rather than from felt as fedoras and trilbys usually are.

Does this help? Welcome to the Lounge!

Yes! I can't believe I didn't think of that before. Here's a great picture of it:

The difference is that mine has that "pinch" at the top, whereas Professor Henry Jones dons more of a bucket look, so I'm wondering if the "pinch" distinguishes it as anything other than a bucket hat / walking hat.

Yes! I salute you! The Henschel webpage doesn't even have this listed yet. You've a fine store, Aaron. I've bookmarked you.

I love this hat. My head is 24" and the XL fits perfectly. But what IS it? What would you classify it as? It's absolutely perfect for autumn weather. I wear it to work every single day, and I'll continue to do so until the Philadelphia winter sets in when I'll switch to my charcoal winter Tilley.
