Hello everybody!

I know, it's another hair thread, I hope I don't bother anywone, but there's one thing I have to know, how can I get that hairstyle?

When I try to do that, I always end up looking like Marlene Dietrich in "der Blaue Engel", with greasy hair :/ I just don't know what I do wrong, how can I brush my hair out without it getting too poofy? Can anybody help me?

I would guess the trick would be to not use a brush (to avoid frizz) and try gently brushing it out with your fingers. What do you use to get the curl? Hot rollers, curling iron, sponge rollers, etc.? Are the rollers small? If so, try a larger size on the rollers. The smaller the roller, the tighter (and possibly frizzier) the hair.

Hello Naama~
I would suggest over-directing your sections of hair and rollers. If you have lots of body in your hair and don't want any oomph at the top, try this:

Pin up the top section of your hair. Roll everything underneath that section as you normally would, to the scalp. Let down the rest of your hair and drag the sections from your part all the way over and then roll only the bottom, yet getting it snug to fit on top of your last roller below that section. Gee, I hope I'm making sense, lol! Basically your set should look just as that picture looks, your curlers will be where the curls are on her hair, and your hair will still be wet and dragged over where her hair is smooth on top.
Her hair texture looks very fine, where as anyone else with any volume would definately wind up with pouf if rolled to the scalp on top.

Let me know if that's not clear, hehe... Good luck!

First, thank you!

Ohairas,
do you mean I should roll op the first 2 sections to my scalp and the others not? It's a bit complicate how you wrote that, but I think it makes sense to me (I think).
By the way, my hair actually is rather thin, I don't have that much volume, unless I roll them up :/ Live is hard....

All of the rollers will actually be to your scalp, only the top ones only the underneath hair of the section will be rolled tightest, as the hair from your part will be dragged over. You can do your top sections first if you wish, instead of pinning them up and doing the bottom first, whichever is easiest for you.

Tho I believe Garbo's do is actualy a pin curl set, again with the curls starting at the ears. This gives a softer curl pattern that will 'hang' better, where as the rollers give a more bouffant curl that puffs out from the scalp.

I plan to get my hair books out of storage soon and scan some things for y'all. Please bare with, I'm on my new pc for the first time tonight and I'm so excited!! Don't even have my printer hooked up tho....
