How popular was tweed in the 40's?

Was it seen a lot in sport coats and the such in America? I believe it gained more popularity in the 50's, but how common was it in early 40's and throughout after the war?

Very. Very very. When my father got out of the Marines in 1946 and went back to work, he bought 2 new suits at Brooks Brothers. One was brown, and the other was gray tweed.
