How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

Looking into shearling jackets again. Not restricting myself to historical designs, the only one that appeals to me is the B6 anyways. However, I really would like something with black or very dark brown fur.

Looking into shearling jackets again. Not restricting myself to historical designs, the only one that appeals to me is the B6 anyways. However, I really would like something with black or very dark brown fur.

Years ago I specced out the idea of a Highwayman with a shearling lining, in order to have a black one. Then Aero launched the Thunder Bay, which appeals. I like the idea of a leather shell with a shearling lining for really foul weather. Shearling is great in cold, though don't wear an Irvin or a B3 in the rain without an umbrella. The jacket survives just fine, but the feel of wet shearling round your neck isn't the most pleasant! I still really like the Thunderbay, though for a warm, black short jacket I now have my eye on the quilted Wilderness. Something like the Hudson with a shearling lining would make for a really nice civilian jacket, particularly for that little bit of extra length against the cold. A shearling-lined Barnstormer always appealed to me, but I suspect (given I rather fancy one of those for wearing over the top of a suit) it would be overkill for most of the temperatures I am likely to be out in. If I were to spend much more time in Beijing in the Winter, that would be different. I was very glad of my B3 and the Irvin on separate trips there about ten years ago. (Now it's the other extreme; when - plague times aside - I'm able to get out there, it's always in April / May / June when it's too unbearably hot to even thing about a jacket of any sort!)

In terms of other makers, I did once handle a Schott B3 in black, which was nice. I'm no reenactor, but when it comes to the military designs I can't usually get past obvious alterations like handwarmers. Somehow, however, rendering the B3 in black takes it far enough away from the original design that these things don't jar to my eye. The new ones are a bit beyond what I'd be inclined to pay, however if one fell into my path on a good, used deal, I would definitely consider it.

I decided to give Bainbridge a try with the Aero Maxwell. Holy crap it's soooo nice!

I had a Vanson in it. To me it looked a little too close to couch leather.

Yep...I had two 9D's at the time. I just couldn't get myself to like wearing that leather. Tons of pull-up, maybe too much for my taste.
Good to know, I'd like to get a 9d, or maybe even a Dakota Barn coat, and have been considering upgrading to the fancier leather. Would love to see an example with a year or twos wear on it.

Hmmm.... I don't know. Maybe it had something to do with the color.
No it had nothing to do with the color, it all looks like couch leather to me. Far as I know there aren't that many options for brown. There's maple (which I had) and cedar. The redwood I wouldn't call brown as it's a legit red. I think the dark hicory vancouver leather is a bit nicer without the super high gloss.

My Aero Type III arrived today - Hurray!!!

The jacket wasn't expected until Monday 9-19-22 but it came 3 days early. The jacket was shipped on Tuesday and got here in about 3 days from overseas. That is super fast! From initial order placement to receipt it was just about 4 weeks. There were no additional fees/customs/taxes and the jacket was passed from DHL to USPS and delivered just a bit ago. Thanks to Canuck Panda for your input regarding potential charges.

I did take a few initial images, did a cursory try on and will provide additional images and wear in good time. The jacket is perfection in every expected way. The fit is near perfect (standard sz 44) although a bit stiff which is to be expected with a new born jacket. I really like the contrast between the navy blue exterior and wine cotton sateen lining which is not as bright in person.

Not sure if I should create a new thread in reference to my arrival or continue posting in this one.

So, in summary, at this point in time - Color me Happy!

Then it must have been the pull-up.

We'll see how my Aero Maxwell ages over time in the lighter color.... so far, me likey.

Is yours cedar bainbridge? I tried to love bainbridge but it just didn't happen. Too thin, too waxy...it did smell great though. Ultimately I wore the comp weight version of that jacket far more.

How long did you wear it, and did the shine dull at all?
LW HH is one of my favorite hides, but looks and feels like dry cardboard before it's worn. I'd have guessed Bainbridge looks less like a shiny couch after a while, but I could be wrong.

I did not give it nearly enough wear to know but I suspect it certainly would've dulled with age. I have yet to see a "worn in" example,

Don't know other than it's Bainbridge as it's second hand originally from Thurston Bros.

I had been admiring the Thurston Bros jackets when stumbling upon their description of this leather as starting out hard and smooth and it then creases to reveal incredible grain and color variation.

We shall wait and see...

Nice jacket congrats! This batch of navy Vicenza looks great. The Aero Type3 is a very comfortable pattern, the leather should break in very fast. Enjoy.

About Bainbridge and CXL. I think everyone is trying to crack the code. How to have that CXL finish but more wearable - little or no warm up time needed. How to get that substantial feeling without it weighing too much. I think some type of thinned down CXL steer is the answer. But that's just my daydreaming. And I think Bainbridge was created with that intend too.

And more on my Bainbridge research before recently taking the plunge:

Bainbridge is described as a medium weight leather and comes out nearly the same as Badalassi and Vicenza. The feel of the leather (body/stiffness) is in between the Badalassi and the Vicenza.

Bainbridge feels just a little stiffer than Vicenza, but it's very flexible and will shape to you quickly.

So far, color me impressed. :)

Thanks. As this is my first exposure to Vicenza I must say I'm impressed with it. In comparison, I have a regular 1/2 belt in FQ HH and a long 1/2 belt in the super heavy CXL steerhide and the Vicenza is far more wearable than the CXL. Since the Type III is more casual in style this makes sense. The leather is a bit stiff but I've worn it for a while and the sleeves are already seasoning up nicely. This Aero has moved to the front of the line in relation to the Vanson Maverick, Schott Naked cowhide Jean style and Iron Heart Type III HH jackets that I have. Since this acquisition I am pondering getting another Type III but in the Natural Vicenza before the new site discount expires!
