How do I do up a Belted Back waistcoat?

Hi folks.

I admit I love a good waistcoat. I suppose it goes hand in hand with loving pocket-watches.

However, I also admit that I'm rather clueless about how to strap up the belt on the back of belted waistcoats. Is there a specific knack or method of doing this so it looks neat, proper and so that the belting stays where you want it to? I have about four or five waistcoats and about half of them are belted-backs and I want to know the proper way of doing them up. I feel like a dunderhead otherwise.

I assume you mean the back adjuster which helps with the fit of the waistcoat? I simply set mine, with the aid of a friend occasionally on every waistcoat and leave it that way forever or until I get a little larger or smaller in the waist. Then I loosen or tighten respectively. If it gets too warm or feels too muggy to wear the waistcoat I either leave it off that day or simply unbutton it when I'm sat down with a jacket off. I hope this helps.

Yes that's what I mean, Matt. I always learnt to call them belted waistcoats. I've figured out how to do the belt on one of them so that it's all done up properly. Now trying to belt up the others properly...
