I won and eBay auction on a fedora 1947-1960 era but how do I tell the crown on the asides are straight It doesn't have a straight forward photo and I can only tell it has straight sides from the front of the crown and the back of the crown by looking at a side photo... Any help Im really a fan of the tall looking straight crown

Without returning the hat to open crown, you can't really tell if the sides of the crown are straight. Many hats with taper can be creased down to become straight if you crease it down low enough. It looks like you purchased a very nice late 40's/early 50's Stetson. I've handled quite a few of Stetsons offerings from that time period and I can tell you that they are quality hats. Obviously, every hat series could have used different block shapes, but chances are the open crown of your hat looks something like this.....

This is from an early 50's Open Road that I had, but the block profiles seemed to be relatively similar in the late 40's/early 50's. The sides are straight, but the top is a bit rounder than what you would have seen in the early 30's for example. I used a centerdent on my open road and as you can see, the crown squared up quite nicely.

very nice photo and i love the tan/beige color of it... the fur felt in the photo looks smooth if not with a kashmir finish. and a 1/2 inch bound edge correct? i also noticed on my hat im recieving hopefully today that it has a silver looking ribbon about 1 3/4 grosgrain... its a 2 1/4 inch brim although i preferred the 3 inch but the stetson should have a marvelous quality if its from that era... the only thing that bugged me about it was the over and underwelt edge, i usually like the bound edge myself but its a beautiful hat in the end

The felt was just a regular finish, but it was finely finished so it was very smooth and dense. I no longer have the hat, but I believe the bound edge measured 1/8 of an inch to 1/4. Obviously pictures can be deceiving, and you'll find out when you get the hat, but that brim doesn't look anywhere close to 2 1/4 inches. It looks to be 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 from the pictures.

i just recieved my package and it looks nice a bit darker grey than i saw in the photos and the problem is that its size seven and it feels a bit tight... im gonna have to have it stretched at the st jo outlet store... other than that its great fur quality or it could be from all my long hair causing the space to cramped

the thing is it will fit on my forehead and it does not feel constricting tight but it feels just snug to where it will not fall off if i wobble my head. im more of a 7 1/8 and the size says exactly 7 and there is no padding under it, long story short it rests right on my head and doesnt go passed the ears and lines right to my forehead with out forcing it to do so. it feels just right enough to fit on my head with out forcing it down on my head

the other problem could be it shrank in the heat during travel... my head size is a seven to 7 1/8 so i dont see what could have gone wrong besides that

Hmmmm. Kinda sounds like it fits! Wear it, and it will get better acquainted with your head. Yep.:D
