How are pumps supposed to fit?

I just got a pair of formal pumps (no bow, though :( ) and I'm not sure if they fit right. My feet aren't super-wide but they are large so the narrow toe pinches a little. My immediate thought was to get a size larger, but as I walk the heel slips a bit so I don't know if it would get worse with a larger size.

I've never worn formal pumps and it's been 12 years since I even had loafers so I don't really know how these are supposed to feel as I wear them. the low cut in the front is a little funny but I'm sure that's just the way it will be until I get used to it.

Pumps are by nature low cut. I have three pairs and not one is meant for comfort, but they certainly do look elegant.

Also at a shoe store or the cobblers they can sometimes stretch the area it pinches at. There is a device like tongs with a ball on one side and a ring on the other. You spray the shoe stretch fluid inside and out and put the ball where the toe is then press the ringover the ball and the leather stretches.

Another is to take some finely chopped zucinni and put in a zip lock inside another ziplock bag then push into area needing stretching and put shoe in Freezer. The expanding zuke mix will stretch it out a bit.
