One of the truly iconic names of the Golden Era will be shutting its doors soon. Roseland, the legendary ballroom in Manhattan, is closing.

The Goldkette Orchestra from Detroit absolutely slays the Fletcher Henderson organization in a "Battle of the bands" at Roseland.

Goldkette's band recorded in February of 1927 playing the arrangement that simply stunned the Henderson men:

Very nice, but rather antique next to the Bill Challis arrangements featured by the band from Detroit.

The present location dates from 1958. Most of that really historic stuff happened across the street in the original location., But still . . .

And the NYC Opera basically self destructed. Some of those board members should go to jail, but they won't

As for the Opera, well Pat and I are certainly glad that Beverly did not live to see its sad demise.

I guess it means innovation, that's one old theater I guess and maybe it needs some rest now. I guess they will build up a new business in the same land. Just speculations.
