Hollywood ...twist...slant....???

I seen some pictures recently in various threads, showing hats whereof the brim been slightly slanted away from the more or less horizontal plane of the rest of the brim, rendering the general appearance of the face-hat entity rather "debonair" (from french "de bon air" aaahh... dictionaries are great!).

Since I'm considering trying this on one of my hats: how exactly is it done? I sometimes find the classic "fedora look" a bit too austere and serious looking.

Yes Jimmy, that looks pretty much like it. As if the snap was slightly "sideways"...you don't mean to tell me the bash of the hat must be done off to a side, too?

I like to wear mine somewhat like that sometimes. it seems to give an attitude with it and I like attitude sometimes. It seems it must since I always get pics of it with my "rebellion/revolution flags.

if the brim has a good snap to it then it is easy to just snap it sideways. No change on the crown either.

I saw that type of brim on Robert Michum in "Out of the Past" and recently on John Malkevich in "The Changeling" which is a great hat movie, BTW. I found it interesting that the 1920s had narrower brims on fedoras than the 1930s and 1940s if the movie was historically accurate.

One thing I noticed, I tried to put the flip on the other side like the capone pic. I can't wear it that way, it has to be down over my right eye.[huh] Maybe my right eye dominant thing or somethin...lol

I think you have a picture with a western version of the slant that I like better than the Capone slant. Buffalo Bill maybe?

Don't know where, but I saw a reference to this style in a guide to how to wear your hat. It was described as an bohemian artist look. I think the accompanying picture was a famous italian opera star in a big soft black borselino, ascot and sharp moustache. looked great.

Not everyone (and not every hat) can make that look work, but it's cool when does work. I have only one hat that looks right on me that way, and like Indycop, it has to be a certain side It's been a while, and I can't remember which now! lol
