Same story, different cast, different studio

Hollywood Canteen was made by Warner Brothers, and had a bit of trouble "borrowing" actors and actresses from other studios for the film.

Stage Door Canteen, the stage production, was the inspiration for the real Hollywood Canteen.

Which film did you like?

A little interesting photo below
Here's where the original Hollywood Canteen barn was located:

I've never seen Stage Door Canteen entirely. I remember the very beginning, but nothing further then that. I am still wondering why Hollywood Canteen isn't on DVD or on VHS anymore for that matter.

As a movie, I enjoyed Hollywood Canteen because I always like to watch the Andrews Sisters in their prime and the rest of the cast seemed to hang together better.

As a display of the power of the big bands, Stage Door Canteen was the best because of the wonderful bands that did their stuff in that film. Also, Ray Bolger was great to watch.

I enjoyed both but unfortunately I only own Stagedoor Canteen. On sheer luck I found it for sale at the gift shop for the American History museum here in DC.

I love the ideas of the USO places for service men in WWII.Women could dance and serve food but it was still a fairly safe and modest place for them to come in contact with service boys.I wouldve loved to have worked at one.
