I was thinking many of you, especially in the midwest and east went to high schools that were built or operating during the Golden Era. You know, buildings with character opposed to modern sterile ones.

Anyhow here's Cleveland High School in St. Louis, MO- it was built in 1916 and dubbed "The Castle."

I attended Lincoln H.S. in Des Moines, Iowa. It was seven through 12th grade then, but is a high school today.

My father attended Lincoln in 1928, my cousin in the 40's and my brother and I in the 50's-60's. This was a classic building, the front looking a bit gothic, had wooden lockers, a huge smokestack in back. I believe it was built in the early 20's.

If I fail in my attempt to bring up a picture, you can Google it.

My Highschool was Built in 1928, but doesn't have much Character - Yet some of Maryland's other highschools built in the same era resemble a college campus far more than a high school.

Maryvale (A Ctholic Highschool) was actually built as a mansion/Summerhome in the 30s, and to this day the nuns who reside there are still finding false walls and cabinets stocked with liquor.

Wingnut -- Every fairly large-sized city I have ever lived in had a Lincoln High School.

Sometimes I feel like an alumni of something much bigger than just merely Des Moines Lincoln.

The high school I went to, in Pontiac, Michigan, was immediately torn down after I graduated (if THAT doesn't give one a complex...!) The school was founded in 1847, but the building wasn't that old. I think the building was maybe put up around the turn of the century (20th). It was a great old, red-brick monstrosity with plenty of catacombs and passageways, which of course we nimrods explored at every opportunity. We even went up into the attic one time and prowled around. It was replaced by what I call a minimum security high school that doesn't have a single opening window. I was in that place only once, and became totally creeped out. But my grade school, which was equally cool (it even had a bell tower), was built in 1893 and it's still there.

Mallory- Nice to know we weren't the only ones that snuck around exploring hidden parts of the building! We liked to open the access trap doors in the basement and go explore the steam heating network passages.:cheers1:
