DOIN' THE LAMBETH WALK......OI !!!
Whatto all,
I have sort of started this in another thread, but it may not be picked up, so here I go again.
I have a "Hickey-Freeman" for "Woolf Bros" suit which I am trying to date.
Does anyone know when these two were "in partnership", so to speak.
I believe the suit to from between 1930 and 1950, but would like to pin it down a little better in order to list it properly on EBAY.
Any help greatly appreciated.

LABELS

Whatto All,

I cannot find a union label in the suit, only the normal inside breast pocket label which reads : Customised by
HICKEY-FREEMAN
for
WOOLF BROS

The label is black, with silver writing, possibly silk, and is hand stitched on using blanket stitch of white thread.
I think there is also an image of a hand holding a needle and thread embroidered into the label.
I am stating this from memory and will check this evening.

LABEL/ZIPPER

I have found where there was once a label, but is missing. On the inside of the trousers, on the rear of the watch pocket. Probably union label size, maybe slightly larger.
I know there are a few zipper experts on here, so maybe a description of the fly will help.
The zipper is a dull silver/steel colour and was made by TALON, there is a large V going through the name, there is no box at the bottom, there is thread preventing the puller part sliding off the teeth, does this help ??
On the bottom of the breast pocket, left hand side of the label are the words #REG.PATT.U.S.OFF.
Any theories anyone ??

LINING

Whatto Baron/All,
Hope you are keeping well.
The jacket is what I would call half lined, the front quarters being lined with a very dark indigo? silky material, the back being unlined. The sleeves are lined with a thicker version of the lining material in cream. The waistcoat back is made of the same indigo? material and the inside of the waistcoat is lined in cream silk-cotton. The visible seams inside the jacket are bound /edged with the indigo material.
I would say the suit material was wool, but feels very "silky".
It is a beautiful piece, whatever the age. If I were to keep it I would have to have the waistcoat re-backed, and it's not really what I wish for the suit, I would rather it stayed "original" and I bought a suit more my size with the proceeds.
Thank you for your interest.

OK. Probably middle 1950s or earlier, then. We are of course guessing blind right now, without images.\

I note that a Talon zipper with a "V" is something i've mentioned before. I believe it was on a late 30s pair of trousers, but i don't quite recall clearly.
