Help with outfit

Hello!
Hope this is the right place for this!
I'm planning a 40s style costume for my upcoming 21st birthday and have the basic outfit sorted but wondered if you experts could help me refine it a little....please!

...um...excuse to stupid pose, I was being silly! lol

I'm especially looking for help with hair, make up and jewellery. Even using a lip pencil bright red lipstick seems to go everywhere, and clashes with my dress, is there another option?
I have a pair of RAF wings on a pin, but don't know whether to pin them to the dress or string them on a chain. Other wise, what kind of jewellery should I be wearing?
Hair wise, as you can see it's not very long, I've tried some of the styles suggested on the threads, but the end result in invariably silly with me pulling out my hair in fustration! Is there something simple I could do that is invocative of the 40s?
And is there anything in the basic outfit itself that could be enhanced? I'm getting seamed stockings to go with it.

Thanks for your help in advance, and hope to see you around

Hi Jungle Red. As for make up and hair, Id check out the stickie in the Beauty forum. There are mounds of links and info there.

The outfit is cute, love the shoes :). I do think those shoes are a bit miss matched color/style wise with the dress you have, but thats just me. Are you going to be wearing any foundation garments with the outfit? That can really help you get a classic 40s look.

Maybe others will chime in too.
Good luck, and welcome.

I would wear a raspberry lipstick; this color would work great with your dress and still be period correct. Add a rosy blush, neutral eye shadow, a little liner and mascara and your makeup will be complete. You can define your brows a bit more as well if you like.

The way your hair is styled would work as well; it reminds me of this look, in fact:

I'd probably go with a darker shoe as well, perhaps one that is more gold in color, but what you have on is quite cute. :)

For foundation garments, I would wear a strapless longline bra.

Foundation Garments:

Like JBD suggested, a long line bra (strapless) or a girdle.

Seamed stockings?
Any type of coat or wrap?
Dont forget the small touches, like gloves, a hat (or a flower in your hair) and maybe a brooch. Those will pull your look completly together.

I 'third' the foundation garments as they will give you a really smooth line.
I was going to say a burgandy red lipstick rather than a bright red and maybe elbow length to 3/4 length gloves. And I like the black shoes with the dress better than the lighter colored ones (just my opinion), with seamed stockings, of course. And don't forget some bling-bling, like maybe some gold-toned rhinestone earrings or bracelet (wear it over the gloves) or maybe even a pretty dress clip.
Looks like you've got the hair about down like JBD said. I was thinking you looked more like Hedy Lamarr.

Play around and try a few things. Dressing up is SO MUCH fun!

Best wishes on your upcoming birthday!
