help with a cotton dress?

I bought the prettiest sheer cotton dress recently, but when I wore it today, it shattered in two places. Upon further touching it , and moving around, parts of it seem almost brittle.
Is there anything I can wash it in, or do, to keep it from shattering further?

Sadly I think that dress is going to be just for show. If it was just a small weak spot you could put some interfacing on the back, but adding that all over will make your dress very stiff and hang funny.

Thanks, Stephanie. I may just wear it very very rarely. It is so odd, it is only brittle in small spots. It is a busy print, and after some mending, the tears aren't terribly noticeable. I will keep my fingers crossed!

Sounds like the cotton is rotten. It will only get worse. Is it form fitting to you, or loose beneath your underdress? Depending on where the tears are, you might be able to cover it with some fancy lace placement.
