Looks like you aren't getting any takers on the size small. I have a medium that would be 2" wider across the chest than the small. It isn't an Alpha but is a mid 60s issue field coat (M-65). If that will help any, let me know, and I will get the p2p for you.

Just remembered I have another later model issued M-65 in medium. When I get home I will see if it is an Alpha.

Yes Peacoat, that will help me, thanks.

I do have an Alpha M-65 in small, haven't had a chance to get a tape measure to it. I'll try to do so over the weekend.

Across shoulders: 21.5"
Pit to Pit: 21"
Waist: 22"
Bottom:24"

(Both last two measurements with coat zipped up and layed flat.)

I am a 38/39" chest and it fits big on me (although perfectly wearable), I could probably wear a XS happily. Having said that, I have a second one with the liner fitted and with the liner it is a perfect fit.

Now that Dave has answered your question about a small, my answer as to the medium is probably moot, but since I got them out an measured, here they are:

My 1983 Winfield (M-65 issue) Medium is 23.75 pit to pit. I have the liner in, and it is a close fit. Still room for a thin vest or a light sweater.

My 1968 Rolane Sportswear (M-65 issue) in Medium is 22.25 p2p with a note that it fits chest sizes 37 to 41. Without the liner it is a close fit but still room for a thin vest or a light sweater. With the liner it would be tighter than I like a coat to fit.

Fitting of military jackets/coats, in relation to the stated size, has gotten larger over the years.

Edit Note: Forgot to mention that my chest is 42".

Hello I am in the market for a new Alpha M65 modern version. I had mixed luck with vintage.

I am pit to pit - 20"
Shoulders - 18"
Sleeve - 33/34"
5'10" height
160 lbs
31 " waist

Would like the liner as well.

Do I buy an XS or Small ? Sizing can be super confusing. Especially when people measure differently.

Thanks !

Are you going to wear it with a liner? I feel they generally size these jackets with liner, which would account some for those who don't use the liner dropping a size or finding their common size to be large fitting. Might seem obvious, but it's something to consider.

Yes I plan on purchasing the optional liner. I read ""somewhere" that you should still purchase your normal size and that the liner was already figured into the size of the garment.

The problem is the Alpha Website has a fit finder only. I do see size charts online but nothing on the Alpha website. The fit finder says I am a M which is 100% incorrect. I owned one of these in medium before when I was fat and it still was too large.

OK, you have confused me. You gave a p2p of 20". Does that mean you want a jacket with a p2p of 20"? The reason I ask that as the chest is never measured in terms of p2p; the full circumference of the chest is measured. Only jackets are measured as p2p.

If you will measure your chest circumference, wearing only a tight fitting T shirt or bare, we will have a better idea of what size you need.

Yes I need a jacket in those measurements or close to it. I know my measurements very well. I prefer doing it this way than by choosing a random chest size. This method is more exact.

Thanks

My medium Field Jacket has a p2p of 23." It is a good fit for my 41/42' chest without the liner. A liner might make fit too tightly. I think these jackets were designed to fit with the liner. So you will probably need to go down to a small or extra small.

Edit Note: While I had gone to measure, I see that Pdawg posted above. That should answer your question.
