Well I tried my hand at using the Scout brand hat cleaner. There is one for Light hats and one for Dark. The hat I have is tan and falls into the light category. Application went smooth...everything powdered up nicely. Then I started brushing it off...as long as it took to remove I am wondering if the majority of the cleaning doesn't come from the brushing action to remove the Scout. Anyway the hat came clean, but still seems to have a light power do it...and this after about 20 min of brushing. But the true "BADNESS" came in the ribbon.
It (the wide, vintage grosgrain ribbon) was badly stained with sweat and really needed cleaning. So, I sprayed it as well....but....it is a chocolate brown...now I have a reasonable clean hat...with a splotchy powdered ribbon. Do any of you have an idea as to how to remove/clean that? I am considering removing it and soaking it in white camp gas that I have. But I would appreciate suggestions.
Thanks
