HELP!! Scout Hat cleaner Badness

Well I tried my hand at using the Scout brand hat cleaner. There is one for Light hats and one for Dark. The hat I have is tan and falls into the light category. Application went smooth...everything powdered up nicely. Then I started brushing it off...as long as it took to remove I am wondering if the majority of the cleaning doesn't come from the brushing action to remove the Scout. Anyway the hat came clean, but still seems to have a light power do it...and this after about 20 min of brushing. But the true "BADNESS" came in the ribbon.

It (the wide, vintage grosgrain ribbon) was badly stained with sweat and really needed cleaning. So, I sprayed it as well....but....it is a chocolate brown...now I have a reasonable clean hat...with a splotchy powdered ribbon. :( Do any of you have an idea as to how to remove/clean that? I am considering removing it and soaking it in white camp gas that I have. But I would appreciate suggestions.

Thanks

M

Magus, if you go back and read my post about using this stuff you'll see that I said to ONLY use the stuff for DARK colors. The white stuff has silica in it and is ONLY for use on white stiff cowboy hats. I guess I should have made it more clear and I apologize if it wasn't but I always try to emphasize this fact when I instruct people on using it.
I know at first it seems logical that if your hat is a light color you shouldn't use the one for Dark colors, but that is indeed the stuff you should use.
I'm not sure how to get the silica out, using Naptha or the white gas would be something to try. Do you have an old beater that you could spray the stuff on and see how the gas or naptha works in getting it out?

No worries Fed...not laying any blame at anyones door.

I think it was the right one for the hat as it did come clean....but the powder came off slowly. I think I can work out the silica...its the ribbon that isn't doing well. Light hat...dark ribbon.... I don't think that I could have used the dark spray on it and the light on the hat....or...hmmm...maybe I could have with somehow inventivly holding paper to mask the hat or ribbon. At this point the ribbon is a loss unless it comes out somehow so I guess it is by default "the old beater".

Thanks,
M
