Help ordering my Aero 1930's Half Belt

Hey everyone,

This is my first post here. Like several others, I've used the site as a resource while considering whether to order an Aero jacket, and which one to pick. I've decided on a Brown FQHH 1930's Half Belt. Yesterday, I placed my order through Insurrection and now have to decide on a few details. First, Wade at Insurrection (who has been fantastically helpful) mentioned that he thinks putting Green OD stitching on the jackets looks great. I am intrigued by the idea, but I really can't picture exactly how it's going to look. I certainly don't want the stitching to be a jarring contrast; I love the classic look of the jacket. But it does sound like it could be a unique touch. I've been able to find some closeup shots of the green stitching, but I can't seem to find any that give a sense of what a brown FQHH jacket with green OD stitching looks like when viewing the jacket as a whole. Does anyone have any photos like that? If not, can anyone say what the effect of the green stitching is on the look of the jacket?

I'm also curious about the pockets on these jackets. I've seen so many pictures of 30's half belts; some seem to have one slanted pocket on the chest, others seem to have two straight chest pockets. I think I'd prefer the look of one straight chest pocket; is that do-able?

Lastly, I live in southern California, and it doesn't get very cold out here. I was advised to order the jacket with a thin cotton drill lining. But I love the look of tartan. I don't want to have a jacket that's unwearable because it's too warm for my climate; would tartan be much warmer than the cotton drill? Which would be more comfortable? Is there any version of cotton drill that looks as great as those tartan linings do?

Any other tips or help you want to give about the jacket would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks so much!

Tartan Lining

They have a Berry-Brown Cotton tartan lining that I have on my 50's HB that is very nice, if you want a lighter lining with the tartan look!

The OD thread can be a nice touch. You might take a look at the Good Wear web site. I think you would find examples there. My seal brown A-2 from there has the OD thread and I like it. Actually, John pretty much insisted on it. I would also seriously consider sateen in the sleeves. It makes it much easier to put the jacket on.

Thanks so much for weighing in, everyone! I took a look at that seal goatskin jacket with the green OD stitching. The green is definitely more noticable up close, but in the shots that show the jacket as a whole it seems to be a very subtle effect--almost imperceptible. Is it the same when you see one in person?

Also, anyone know anything about the chest pockets? Why are some straight vs. slanted? Is that something I can specify?

I believe they come slanted as standard...
Not sure about Insurrections version, but just order it with the straight pocket (like on the highwayman)...
Aero seems to be very accommodating on that kind of stuff.
