Greetings! I was hoping you fine folks might be able to help me identify this coat or style of coat. Famous explorer Percy Fawcett is sporting this, and I would love to get my hands on one. I've been searching for almost a year, and have half a mind to get one custom made at this point. Any info I might be able to get would be great!

A larger but less quality pic is attached, and you can see all the whole thing.

It looks like a double breasted moleskin travelling coat or a car coat. Early 20th century Swiss and German 3/4 length double breasted military coats in grey have a very similar vibe. And some early variations on a pea coat may provide something like it.

What fabric do you imagine it is made from?

Lot of great overcoats on that site, thanks Peter! None of them match perfectly but they are definitely helping.
It looks like it might be wool, and could be any colour, though it reminds me of the P40 overcoat. The picture appears to be post-Great War, but I haven't found any military coats that are that length. The very functional looking pockets are what really appeals to me. I also unfortunately haven't been able to find any other pictures of him wearing this.

He may well of had it made as a one-off by an outfitter or had one of his own coats modified to suit
Just found this site too

Don't know if this is something you might be interested in. I'ts an unlined, raw-edged peacoat with a welted chest pocket, and leather collar tab. Definitely more unfinished and rugged than what you usually see:

Looks like the kind of thing Woolrich Woolen Mills or Nigel Cabourn put out now. I can't say I've ever seen one exactly like this but I've seen similar.

After looking at probably a thousand different overcoat pictures the last few days, I've come to the conclusion that this is probably some sort of civilian chore coat, (perhaps even custom). Judging by the length, the open pockets, height of the collar, and the lack of epaulets, it's almost certainly not military.

A gentleman of his era probably wouldn't wear a specific military item but might go to a tailor that made military gear for an appropriate adaptation. I believe it is very similar in design to those jackets worn as car coats in the first years of motoring.

I think if you posted this query in the suit section you are more likely to get an answer. You need a period expert. It would help to know the name for this style of coat - for instance a sack coat or pea coat. With a name you have a better chance to narrow down the variables.

Heres a Nigel Cabourn jacket I just came across, very similar to what was firsrt posted bar the pocket flap on the top chest pocket.
Have seen a few variations of this style from them.
