I just picked this up in a local thrift store. It is a tweed belted back jacket.
Can anyone narrow down when this might have been made? It is in very good condition. Does not look used much at all except for a dropped button.
Sorry for the blurry photos..

What a beaut!

Tweed sporting jackets just like that are still made in the UK and judging from the tags and the lining, I don't think it is too terribly old. However, it is a great jacket and has the vintage belted back style. There are so many ways you could wear that; with plus fours to high-waisted pants and a colorful vest.
Awesome find!

Wow, a very nice sport coat!
I can just reply what HJ said. I'd personally wear it with dark brown pants, a light khaki shirt, a bow tie, a brown fedora and if you want a vest!

A really cool find!

Henrik

Does it state the type of tweed?

It looks like Harris -as if I could tell by the photo! Maybe it says something inside one of the pockets.

I am looking for a jacket like that. I was looking through racks of jackets yesterday for a belted linen jacket with that cut, more or less. Tweed would be nice for the fall.

It's from the late '60s to mid '70s. The first indication is the large size of the pocket flaps. The second indication is the placement of the outside breast pocket: it's lower down than that of a '20s or '30s jacket.

Nevertheless, the maker of this jacket was strongly influenced by Golden Era style. For instance, the intricate, unusual weave of the fabric (a cheviot AND a diamond stripe!) is just about identical to weaves found in '20s and '30s suits.
