Knox made the Twenty as a Derby as early as 1915, but a Knox Twenty could be had until the 1960s. I've no idea how long they kept it as a Derby style though, as in later years it was primarily a soft felt snap-brim hat. A Knox Derby from the late-1950s into the 1960s would have had a narrower black leather sweatband, so yours sounds earlier.

Photos can just drag and drop into the text window, but I don't know if our new software still has a minimum number of posts before you have permission to do that. Otherwise, photos have to be hosted on an external site, like Photobucket, and URLs with IMG tags used to post photos.

Cool thanks andrew.
I did find an expert on ebay who looked at some pics of it this morning. he said it's from the late 40s and in the best condition he's ever seen before. He might make an offer on it. .. But haven't heard back from him yet. Thank you brad and Andrew I appreciate your time.

Unless there's something special about the maker or the hat, like provenance, it seems slightly overpriced for that size in that condition. But time will tell. You can ask for ANYTHING. If It doesn't sell, it's probably priced too high. Hope I'm wrong! Good luck; it's a nice little hat.

As far as I can see, a Wakefield hat has never been mentioned on TFL untill now. Whether that's a good or a bad sign, I don't know :)

I like the "hearse" interior and the sweat, but I still think, it's overpriced. The hole in the brim is not fortunate, and I'm not a fan of dent marks on top of a stiff hat. That should be reflected in the price - but I don't believe it is.

Usually a small size means smaller price. In this case the marked 7 probably is in UK-units. The hat is most likely a 7-1/8 (US), and would be a little more expensive than a 7 (US). Still I find it too expensive for my pocket :)

Ugh, yes, thanks to a few moronic sellers over the last few years who have outrageously overinflated the value of their hats, now more sellers seem to think all hats are worth big bucks. This hat, in this condition, would be lucky to sell for $30 - $40!

I have a Knox Twenty Custom Edge, on the inside of the hat is says Oval: LO, To Duplicate: H 23749, Block: 006 5 1/2, Size 7 1/4. (I think the 5 1/2 is the crown size because that is what I measured. Curious what the model and what year it is. Please let me know JESNYY@aol.com Happy Thanksgiving 2020. Stay Safe to all.

Please post pics of the tag, as well as any other sweatband markings and logos. It's pretty impossible to nail anything down otherwise. Also, try Googling The Hatted Professor. He has good information on many such hats, though I believe his Knox section is in need o development.

The School of Hard Knox can also be a good resource for you to research. https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/the-school-of-hard-knox.18386/

Good luck and have fun!

Not enough information for me to guess at the age, I’m terrible at it in any case, but the model is The Twenty. It is the price point and the model name. Some hats do have both a price designation and a separate model name, but most don’t. Also, unless there is some provenance like a box or receipt with the model name it’s often impossible to determine the exact year or the precise model.

Posting bigger pics will help too.

One additional question: is there a cover over the liner? If so, it could be plastic or oilskin.
