I am wondering if anyone can aid me in figuring out what type of hat this may be. The photo seems to be late 1800's - 1900s, and the hat looks to be a soft felt w/ a bound brim. I just really want to find out what the hat may look like (or be), to maybe have a repro made, or even come across one from around the same period...

So if anyone can find any ads that resemble it, or have one in their collection, please post the pics here, or PM me! I too will be looking for look alikes in ads, and the sort.

Here is the photo:

Thank you so much!

To me it looks like either a bowler with a crushed crown or a very straight-sided fedora with a very unusual bash. He certainly looks comfortable and confident in it!

I don't have any of my grandfather's hats (or any earlier ones), but I have my great-great grandfather's walking stick. I carried it (along with my top hat) at my wedding, which was exactly 7 years ago tomorrow.

I wish I was lucky enough to have phtos of my great-great . . . I do have a few pics of my great form around the same time period as this, but alas, sans headwear :)

The more I look at it, the more I think a crushed bowler, but I am still on the fence if that is what it could be, but the brim swoop looks like my Lenox Co. which has the front of the brim bent upwards, like my Great (x3) grandfather's hat. Any other ideas?

It's definitely not a crushed bowler. Even at that time period, the brim curl on a bowler was very different.
A fairly typical soft felt hat of the period.
