I keep tearing the seams in my skirts. I take a long stride and the kick pleats or walking slits start to come undone. Suggestions on how to prevent this, besides taking smaller steps?

I doubble sew every seam in every garment I make just for that reason. Most garments still only have one pass for every seam. ick,

Is it a vintage suit? I dont think the ladies moved too much, so the suit would stay impeccable

Id just re-stitch the problem areas.

Good luck,

Hi Paisley, try a little square of interfacing at the top of the inside seam of a vent or pleat and when you sew it take your machine stitches way down small. I find this works very well.
Top stitching diagonally at the top of a French Vent also seems to reinforce it it also looks lovely.
Like L.D says I don't think that vintage suits were made for much striding about in, I often find my pencil skirts fair better if I'm in a girdle and heels as I can't run for the bus......I have to walk with little steps!!!!:p

Thanks for the advice. I think I will also try sewing a button at the top inside of the slit to help keep it from tearing.
