Help from a Brazilian FLer, Perhaps?

As you'll see...this is something of a "last resort" kind of request:

I'm a singer, and will be doing a concert in Rio in June. I'd like (as a surprise) to do a 19th Century Brazilian song as an encore, and "the" song seems to be Quem Sabe? by Carlos Antonio Gomes.

Even in the computer age, I have been entirely unsuccessful at finding a copy of the sheet music in North America...and my pianist colleague has been similarly unsuccessful in Germany.

Is there any musical FLer in Brazil who could find, purchase, and send a copy (high voice) to me? It's a lovely song, and I'm still shocked to think that it's so unavailable in the world at large.

Well, I found one called "Ate Quem Sabe", but am not sure it's the correct one. It's on this page, with the sheet music for flute.

Another possibility would be this guitar music collection. It claims to include "Quem Sabe" by "CARLOS GOMES".

Thanks so much to both of you for your goodwill and efforts; they are much appreciated whether they result in anything or not. We are lucky to be fellow-members of such a nice, helpful group of folks.

WB, that sounds like JUST the ticket; CF: thanks! The second piece you found is the right one. It is, apparently, a VERY important piece of music to Brazilians. They, like most countries in the 1840s, were going through a period of national coalescence, in which language was a major component. Up to that time Portuguese was not considered a high enough language for "art"...and "art songs" were written in other languages, primarily Italian. Gomes was the first Brazilian composer to write art songs in Portuguese.

However....as I should have made clear in my first post: I'm looking for a piano/vocal score, in the "high voice" key (whatever that might be; probably F major). I would prefer the original setting (although, in the piano/vocal score that's almost certainly what it would be, unless it has the dreaded "arranged by" attached).

So, WB...if your friend in São Paolo can help, that's the full run-out on what I need.

Dear WB,
Thank you so much for your kindness, and please convey my gratitude to your obliging Brazilian colleague, as well! She was so very kind to collect so many different sources.

Sadly, none are quite what we are looking for...we have decided to just transcribe the song from recorded versions; it's a fairly straightforward composition and my wonderful friend, colleague, and pianist is very good at aural transcription. With the power of notation software we have a very workable version. It would have been nice to have a true, Urtext edition...but this will be more than good enough. I'll certainly buy a copy when I'm in Brazil!

If your colleague has any interest in Joyce and happens to be in Rio on June 16....I can furnish the information regarding the concert and will arrange for a seat to be held for her as a small "thank-you."

Again...my sincere thanks to both of you, and all others who made the effort to assist.
