Hi. I am new here. I’m going through my parents things and found a hat in my Dad’s closet in a bag from a store in Sicily. I never remember my Dad wearing this . This hat might be from the 40’s or 50’s . We immigrated here in the 50’s. The hat is solid black felt without a band although I think it had one. The inside of the hat says Albano Vincenzo, Palermo .. and American Style. I’m thinking this hat was made for the store Albano Vincenzo in Palermo Like private label ? It also could have been purchased in New York by an Uncle. Any help would be appreciated . Any Italians here who also might have some history regarding a hat like this ?

The hat was sold in Palermo by Albano Vincenzo, that is certain. The hat having no other indications can be read, partially, by the labels and prints that are found inside and by the shape and finish. The paper tag seems to be in English, therefore probably the hat was made in Italy for export. "American Style" was a term used by Cappellificio Cervo near Biella for its Bantam series hats in the 1960s and 1970s. This is what I can say

Thank you so much for your reply! This is really helpful to me. I just searched Cappellificio Cervo and there is much information to study in these forums! Putting the dots together this probably belonged to my Uncle who lived in New York in the 60's and passed away there in the 60's as well. I'm really so happy to have found this group. A wealth of information on all kinds of things!
