Hello Golden Era.

[Forgotten Man]

Hello, I’m new here; I wanted to introduce my self a little.

Love the golden era, for me that is a span from 1927 to 1947. I enjoy all the fashions, trends, design and products of those years. I collect a well balanced selection of items from those years and use them almost daily. I enjoy old fans, and other light appliances as well as a few old radios and vintage clothing.

Musical tastes span from the same periods, original recordings and other recordings from those years. The only new bands I’m crazy about are Dean Mora, Jonathan Stout, Johnny Crawford and other period large and small bands who have an authentic sound.

I hope to offer my expertise here regarding the golden era… and enjoy some of you fine members.

As of late, I’ve been into the great depression. True life experiences and what the average person wore, eat, and did during those hard times, to me, those are the true 1930’s… the Hollywood depiction that we see in period films are very enjoyable but, a far cry from what was really going on at those times. I take my hat off to those who lived those hard time first hand and will always respect them and never forget their sacrifices.

Here's a nice photo of a depression era family... hard times yes, but they knew how to smile through it!

Welcome to the the lounge..I'm sure you won't be the "Forgotten Man " for long..

This is a great place to share and gain knowledge and get interaction with folks who have such similar interests. It was quite the shock to me when I first found the site....

I agree that the movies can't always replicate real life....

From stories my family has told me , to me, the most accurate depiction I've seen were the scenes in Cinderalla Man when the family ran into tough times living in the tenements. My Dad said that was just about the way it was..

Yes, I'd have to say that movie for me was a well done period piece. I enjoyed it; also, “Brother Where Art Thou” is a good representation of the Depression in the Southern States... also very enjoyable and funny.

My grandfather told me how he used to have to sleep on top of a bench in the enclosed porch of their home back in those days... never knowing when the next meal would come... one day there was a knock at the door, they opened it and there was a bag full of groceries... never knew who left it there but, people seemed to help each other out in that fashion back in those days.

Yes, I'm a Godfrey GOOF! I love that movie, William Powell is just brilliant in that flick... well, and so is Miss Lombard! I think that is one of the greatest films of the mid 1930's... good message told in that movie.
