I think you mean 'Old' Hampshire, not 'New'! Portsmouth isn't exactly close though. Will you be going up to London specially?

Nina's hair parlour is in Alfie's Antique Market on Church Street, London. This is just off the Edgeware Road and you can get there either from the District/Circle Line or the Bakerloo Line. Both are about five minutes walk. Get an A - Z map book. You'll need it wherever you are heading. You turn down Church Street, go through the market and you will see Alfie's on your Right.

Alfie's has lots of great stalls but they are expensive, as a rule. I would try to get to Portobello Road (Notting Hill Gate or Ladbroke Grove Tube stations) on a Friday. Much better than a Saturday - Friday is when the dealers go. Also Camden Lock might be worth a look (Camden Tube). Haven't been for ages so not sure what it's like these days. Camden Passage - NOT by Camden Lock - at Angel Tube station is worth a squizz on a Saturday. There are a couple of shops and also there are stalls outside too.

Alot of the vintage clothes shops in London have closed recently. Markets seems to be a better bet.

Hi there Lela,

Last year we had a thread on good vintage shopping spots in London when Darhling was coming to visit.

http://thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=32648&highlight=london+shop

I just did a quick google search for vintage shops in Portsmouth and found these addresses:

Angel Clothing
Tel: 023 92815413 - 85 Fawcett Road, Southsea, Hampshire, PO4 0DB

Style and The City
19 Albert road, Southsea
http://www.styleandthecity.co.uk/page3.htm

So it sounds like Southsea is the area to go for!

Beyond retro is a fairly obvious one... there are 2 in london.
Sometimes you can find some stuff in there.
Otherwise Brick Lane (nearest tube is Liverpool Street) is good for vintage shopping.
I have a zine that gives lots of good vintage places to shop. I will try and dig it out at the weekend and relay it to you.
UHmm... just off Carnaby Street (nearest tube, Oxford Circus) is a small square called Kingly Court that I think would be right up your street!
a few vintage and retro shops there selling some lovely pieces.
I've never failed to be disappointed there.
Also if you're in london, (i'm not sure what your decade of preference is) but Vivien of Holloway's shop is in Camden (worth a visit anyway). She sells beautiful 1940's/1950's repro dresses/slacks/shirts etc visit www.vivienofholloway.com
As far as hanging out.. there is the lady luck club.. somewhere i've always wanted to go and there is a rockabilly night every saturday in Hoxton.
And if you're partial to a spot of bowling, I work at All Star Lanes which is a 1950's boutique retro bowling alley.
We have venues in Bayswater (west london), Holborn (central london) and Brick Lane (East london).
You should be able to use google to find all the places i've mentioned.
I hope this has been of some help!

Well I can't add much from what the other ladies said, but I hope you have fun! You probably know about our recent disasterous weather, so wrap up warm. Portsmouth is about 2 hours by train to London and will cost you probably £20-30 for a ticket, but if you know when you'll be going, you can book in advance. How long are you here for? And are you going anywhere else except Portsmouth and London?

I am not thrilled about the 10 hr plane ride that is ahead of me..(i have a fear of planes) but i have to get over it and my friend tells me you can barley tell you are in the air. She says those plane are like buses.. HUGE.. LOL
