Hi everyone. I’m just trying to get some advice if that’s ok. What I’m about to say may annoy some people or they may think I’m being pathetic. Here goes- I have an Aero Bootlegger on order, it’s still a way off production so I assume I can still mod/change order . This is my first proper jacket and I’m a little scared it’s a bit of an unusual design (for the masses). Also I’m 49 in May and I also feel that this design could be a bit young for me ongoing (I tend to keep things for years). Should I change it to a centre zip design or just go ahead and enjoy it ? Thanks in advance.

I think the bootlegger is a great clean crosszip design. What's not to like about that? I don't think wearing crosszips is limited to certain ages.

Only you will know what you will feel comfortable with. Bootlegger is a pretty toned down version of the cross zip. And pretty versatile imo, you can dress it up and down. But if a cross zip makes you feel self conscious or uncomfortable maybe that’s not the jacket you should be getting.

That said, there’s plenty members here who are older than you are that are rocking their cross zips. I don’t think it’s an age thing.

Screw the masses, wear what makes you happy!

@Spiney , buy the jacket that you like and wear what you want to wear. Don't forget that that same majority, the masses you're worried about, had the same set of doubts and gave up on their style, only to look what they believe is acceptable.
And it's also for that same reason, you will discover that more people than you expect will love your jacket. Same as how you'll discover that most people simply don't care so... Have fun! :D

I turn 50 in two weeks and also have a new toned-down cross zip on order. What better present could you give yourself? I jokingly refer to it as my Midlife Crisis Jacket.

After a couple months wear, people will assume you’ve had it for years - cool old guy in his vintage jacket.

Funilly enough, when i bought my brown Bootlegger it was my first cross zip, and like you i thought it was "a bit much", fast forward 5 years, i wear far more "ridiculouse" jackets without even a second thought, if people don't like it they can stare, i couldn't care less...

I agree it’s not an age thing but rather how you feel when wearing it. If you are in your 20s and very self conscious about what you wear you’d probably pull it off worst than a 60yo that doesn’t have a care in the world.

Wear what makes you feel good. Some people don’t give a damn about stares others are bothered by them. You know in what category you fall.

That said the BL is not a flashy style by most standards so I wouldn’t worry.

Wear it and enjoy it! I'm older than you and I've worn crosszips for years.... people simply don't see them (as they're just jackets, after all) or else like them.

Edit: Well, with one exception.... I was once 'double booked' in a seat on a transatlantic flight--not a problem, as the plane wasn't full and the air hostess kindly just gave me a glass of champagne while I waited in the galley for people to settle in so she could find me a seat. I was wearing a very heavy horsehide Aero crosszip.. and when she "escorted" me to my seat, drink in hand, the man next to me became very uncomfortable and asked to be reseated!
