Hat size, newb needs help.

I tried a search but I didn‚Äôt see any specifics on the subject. If I put a fabric tape measure around my head it is exactly 23in and ¬º. Now that puts me at 7 3/8 on the chart. Now I read it should not be 'snug' so does that mean I should go a little larger and get a 7 and ¬?? Or should I stick with the 3/8?

In particular I am looking at getting an every day hat. The Stetson Hampton appeals to me the most. With the Downs coming in a close 2nd.

I do have a much lesser quality 'felt' Pork Pie and Fedora that seem to fit in a “large” though a tad loose.

Can any one give this newb some pointers?

If you didn't leave a lasting mark on your forehead you can probably stay with the 7 3/8. Different hats fit a little different. If it's a tad too snug you can have it stretched a bit and if it's a tad loose you can put a bit of material or felt behind the sweatband.

Go try on several hats from different makers to get a feel for what size you are and can also figure out what brim & crown size works best for you head and face.

FYI the two hats i have are part of Siegel’s. One is called the Zoot hat, just a wide brim fedora and the other is a Siegel’s branded pork pie. both hats came with the suit i got from the zootsuitstore.com. i think they get them from a generic custom hat manufacturer.
