Hat/Ribbon Opinions

I saw hat in an old movie (no idea what it was) and it made me think of an idea for a felt and ribbon color combination. Part of me thinks it would be good if the right shades are chosen, but part of me is saying I'm daft. Here's the idea;

Charcoal color felt (nice and earthy, slight brownish undertone, very dark).

Wide ribbon of a color I can only describe as a nutty, sage/olive green/taupe bordering on a pecan. I can see it in my head as something that might be hard to peg on sight (is it green, is it gray, is it brown?), and only slightly lighter than the felt. Does that make sense?

More importantly, does it sound like a good combination or bad one? Be honest, especially those who work with color (if you're out there).

Sounds interesting, but, you know, I'd have to see it.

Some colors are indeed hard to describe, eh? The ribbon on that hat in my current avatar is kinda like that. It's some vintage stuff that I swear has a touch of something in it that gives it a purplish tinge.

What else do you have in mind for this proposed new hat of yours, NB? Dimensions? Profile?

Well, I don't even know if I can find the right ribbon, but in an ideal world; I'll shoot for an open 5 1/2"+ crown with a 2 5/8" bound brim. A big fat ribbon will call for the higher crown, I think. I'll play with a few bashes to find the hat's personality, but I'm leaning toward a c-crown with a dramatic rake.

Of course, my mind is always sifting through hat ideas. Now that I have plenty of basic staples, I'm looking for more exciting stuff, while remaining sensible enough to work with my wardrobe (see avatar hat for my first example). I have a few ideas, but this one is the one I'm questioning. Probably because it so adventurous to mind.
