Hat FAQ? Types, details, fine points?

I was kind of hoping that the "hat is back" article in "CS" would have more particulars and insider info. The article was a nice mood piece. The tips were good. The types are good to know. But I wish it went a bit further!

Like, what's an "open crown"?

I see mention of famous hat brands and it makes me wonder.

I googled Hat FAQ and searched for Hat FAQ here but came up empty.

The A.S.P. pipe folks have a *great* FAQ.

Is there a major link I'm missing?

I thought open crown meant that the hat was not 'blocked'- you make your own 'bash', pinch and shape.
